Pyramid Club is very happy to present Motte and Lucy Hunter in concert at Futuna Chapel, Karori.
Lucy Hunter (Ōtpoti Dunedin) is a piano player known for her gothic ballads, often concerning twisted desire, the human anatomy, and disease. Over the last decade or so she has released records and performed throughout NZ and the US with her band Opposite Sex, whose last record 'Hamlet' was released with Christchurch's Melted Ice Cream, along with Andrew Savage of Parquet Courts' Brooklyn based label Dull Tools. This year both Opposite Sex and her new band Wet Specimen have released albums to critical acclaim. She's also in the process of releasing her first solo record.
MOTTE is the solo project of Ōhinehou Lyttelton-based violinist and composer, Anita Clark. Riding the thin line between beauty and devastation, Motte weaves together a richly textured world with a violin, delay pedal, sampled sound and voice. Creating a world solely her own, the sound is modern classical, ambient, alt/experimental pop and improvised noise. Motte has released two albums since 2015; 'Songs For Movies' and 'Strange Dreams', with a third to be released next year. Alongside performing she composes for film, theatre and dance.
Futuna Chapel is John Scott’s modernist masterpiece. A brilliant essay in geometry, the building also gains from Scott’s Māori heritage. With its large centre pole and sharply sloping eaves, and its use as a place of contemplation, the building reflects a physical spiritual dimension influenced by the marae.
